The Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) announced national accreditation status for the Bureau of Health Statistics, Iowa.
In collaboration with National Association for Public Health Statistics and Information Systems (NAPHSIS) and with support from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), PHAB’s vital records and health statistics (VRHS) national accrediting program sets standards to foster continuous performance improvement. Vital records and health statistics are essential to public health services and help inform many public health programs that serve our communities.

"For the Iowa team, the accreditation process was challenging and rewarding at the same time. The process really forced us to think about our processes, what documentation we had and where we may have been lacking. The Bureau of Health Statistics has always been a program that took advantage of quality improvement and performance management in the department, which really helped with the accreditation process," said Melissa Bird, Bureau Chief of the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Health Statistics. "This process has influenced how we do business today, gain and train new staff, and serve our customers. I would highly encourage all jurisdictions to consider accreditation."
